India’s ‘Father of IT’ to speak at technology conference
23 September 2008
A leading academic and businessman dubbed “India’s Father of IT” is to speak at a two-day conference examining the current technological and business challenges facing “Software as a Service” (SaaS) in India.
Dr Faqir Chand Kohli, former Deputy Chairman of Tata Consultancy Services Ltd, and former president of Asian Oceanic Computing Industry Organisation, will make a key note speech at the two-day SaaS conference, taking place at the Grand Ashok Hotel in Bangalore on 14 and 15 October.
The SaaS conference is the second information technology event to be hosted by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) in India. The IET is a global engineering and technology institution with 150,000 members in 127 countries and offices in Europe, USA and Asia.
Robin McGill, IET chief executive, said: “SaaS is one of the fastest growing segments of the IT industry because it provides a more cost-effective alternative for organisations to achieve their business objectives than traditional packaged applications. The worldwide market for SaaS is forecast to $19.3 billion by the end of 2011.
“SaaS has been one of the IT industry's hottest buzzwords over the past several years, and now represents a huge global market. This conference, which marks the Institution of Engineering and Technology’s second IT event in India, will bring together experts and provide a highly interactive forum. The event promises to provide an invaluable knowledge sharing and networking opportunity for all those who have an interest in SaaS technology.”
Other speakers include senior executive and CEOs, including Professor S Sadagopan, director of the International Institute of Information Technology in India, Doug Farber, vice president operations Asia Pacific at Salesforce.com, Jaideep Ganguly, principal product unit manager at Microsoft, and Vic Iyer, manager, Solutions, at SAP Labs.
