Characterisation and competences for engineering technician registration
Professional engineering technicians carry many responsibilities. They contribute to the design, development, manufacture, commissioning, operation or maintenance of products and services and are required to apply safe systems of work.
Professional engineering technicians are involved in applying proven techniques and procedures to the solution of practical engineering problems and carry supervisory or technical responsibility.
UK-SPEC Competences
The UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK-SPEC) describes 13 generic competences for EngTech. You are advised to read this document before starting to complete an application.
You must be able to give evidence in your application that you have demonstrated each of the competences. Advice is available on writing good competence claims for you application.

Apprentice route to EngTech
Apprentices completing an IET approved apprenticeship are eligible to apply for EngTech and TMIET via a streamlined route.
