Stage one: staff review
The initial screening of your application for professional registration
Professional registration application forms are received by the registration and standards department. Stage one of the application process is an internal check of your application form, by staff, to ensure it is adequately and appropriately completed and ready for peer review.
What happens to my professional registration form when received by the IET?
- Application forms for registration are forwarded directly to the finance department where any enclosed payment is processed. You will receive a receipt from the finance department as proof of payment;
- Your application is then passed to the registration and standards team for processing;
- Your application will be assigned to a registration coordinator, and it is their responsibility to check for completeness and adequacy of information;
- The registration coordinator will be your key contact throughout the whole process from start to finish.
What will staff be checking for?
The registration coordinator will check the following:
- your contact (home and work) details are correct on the database;
- presence of signatures and eligibility of your supporter/sponsor;
- you have paid the correct application fee;
- you have provided the appropriate documentary evidence to support your application;
- you have provided adequate information on your experience;
- your application has been verified where necessary by your supporter/sponsor.
What happens after the initial checks of my application?
Once these initial checks have been carried out by staff, you will receive an acknowledgement email. A formal letter outlining the entire registration process will be sent to you with the email. The acknowledgement email will notify you of your registration coordinator contact and whether you are required to submit any additional information.
Once your application is deemed complete, staff will send inquiry forms to each of your nominated referees (proposer/sponsor/supporter)
What happens after completion of initial checks of my application?
When staff have completed all checks and all additional information has been received (if requested), the application will be ready for stage two of the process - the peer assessment.
Time scale
Processing payment, checking, acknowledging your application and requesting further information (if required), should take no longer than 21 days.
You will be informed by email when your application is ready for the next stage in the process.
