Reduced membership subscription rates

An outline of the reduced rates and discounts available to members in special circumstances and how to claim.

Reduced subscriptions are available to members in certain circumstances who would usually be paying the full IET standard rate.

If you are not paying the standard rate, you are already enjoying a reduced, transitional or legacy subscription rate (see the 'Payment Section' of your renewal notice) and further reductions cannot be claimed. However, should the circumstances below apply to you and if the percentage reduction shown would be more favourable, then you may opt to pay that amount instead.

50-year membership

Members who achieve 50 years of membership in the 2008/9 subscription period are eligible for a 50% discount off the standard subscription rate.  This discount is automatically applied to your subscription and there is no need to apply.

Students/Apprentices

Apprentices, full-time and part-time undergraduate and full- time postgraduate students studying to satisfy the Institution's membership requirements will automatically be billed at a reduced rate of £12.00.

1The IET defines a person who has retired as someone who is no longer in receipt of any income from employment.  Therefore, if you are working part-time then, unfortunately, you can not be considered for a reduction under the retired fee.  If, however, your income is under £18000 then, you are eligible to apply for category F which provides a 50% discount.  For further information on IET fees - see the standard rates section.
