Mr Humza Malik
Director of Shared Services
National Grid
Humza Malik has eighteen years’ experience in industry, and has spent several of them leading the development of strategies for major private and public sector companies.
Humza joined The National Grid Group in 1998. As Director of Strategy, he worked with the Board in the review and formulation of strategy and also managed the group planning process. He led a number of projects relating to business and market analysis for acquisitions and business development in the UK and Latin America. Humza has also led several strategic initiatives in areas such as mobile communications and e-commerce.
Humza Malik was appointed Director of Information Systems for The National Grid Company plc in December 2001, following which he led the restructuring of the IS function to give it a more customer-oriented, commercial focus. When National Grid merged with the Lattice Group to become National Grid Transco in October 2002, Humza was appointed Director of Information Systems for the enlarged UK organisation. Since that time, he has integrated the IS functions of the two merged companies and has started the process of rationalising and consolidating the IT systems used across National Grid Transco. In 2003, he completed one of the UK’s largest outsourcing deals of the year, when NGT contracted with Computer Sciences Corporation for the provision of IS infrastructure services management.
In January 2005, Humza Malik was appointed Director of Shared Services, a role in which, in addition to the leading the IS organisation, he took responsibility for NGT’s £2bn pa Procurement and Logistics activity.
As well as an in-depth understanding of the development of business strategies in the energy industry, both in the UK and overseas, Humza has extensive experience in business development and project management in this area. He is currently focused on achieving a step change improvement in the way all shared services are delivered across National Grid Transco in the UK.
Previously Humza has held a number of senior private and public sector appointments in technology, business change, strategy and mergers and acquisitions.
