S748 - Energy Review Scotland

Description

Energy Review (Scotland): IEE comments to the Scottish National Party (SNP).

Abstract Despite wind energy’s very high profile there is a need for continued research and development into all forms of renewable energy. Furthermore, Scotland needs to maintain a balance between variable generation (wind) with non-variable generation technologies. In the context of mature and emerging technologies this is likely to involve a combination of renewable and conventional, but we note the Framework Paper’s opposition to furtherance of nuclear energy in Scotland. Given the dependence of conventional generation technologies on imported fuel, careful strategic planning is required to determine the optimal mix, whilst establishing and maintaining a diverse supply network of primary energy sources will be crucial.
