S797 - Strategic Environment Assessment (SEA) scoping report for proposed national policy statement for New Nuclear Power

Description

Consultation on Strategic Environment Assessment (SEA) scoping report for proposed national policy statement for New Nuclear Power: IET comments to the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR).

Abstract

Key to the successful development of any new power station, including nuclear, is its connection to the national electricity grid. This is likely to require new or upgraded transmission lines, even at existing or past nuclear sites. Such transmission reinforcements would extend well beyond the site boundary and would not necessarily be fully considered in the proposed SEA. It is strongly recommended that the SEA process should properly balance transmission with other issues when considering the environmental and social impacts of potential nuclear sites.
