Updates to CD version 5

Installer help

The installer instructions - install.pdf - have been expanded, with more explanations, tests and pictures added.

These are primarily aimed at Network Administrators for whom a Microsoft Word document has also been added. Intended for CD v5, v4 users will also find this helpful. Please download Installer Help documents Install_Help.exe [725K] from the Downloads section on this page.

You may install this update directly to the same location where the original files have been stored: this is usually C:\Iee_16th\Help (and/or to a mirror image on a server). To access the files, open C:\Iee_16th\Help\install.pdf.

Updates: web_up8a.exe

The web_up8a.exe update [2.3Mb] should be run on all v5 user machines, whether single or network users. Updates to CD version 4

Updates: locate32.api

Some users - particularly of Microsoft Windows 2000, NT and XP - have found that the IEE Locate plug-in is very slow. This update corrects that and may be used irrespective of the operating system.

The file should be downloaded to replace the existing file in your Acrobat Reader plug-ins directory. If you selected the normal installation options the new file should go in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 5.0\Reader\plug_ins.

Please download the locate32.api file [81K] from the Downloads section and replace the existing file.

Updates: whichdoc.api & replace.ini

Some Windows NT, 2000 and XP users have found that when they switch to a different user they get the following error message:

  • Your installed version of Acrobat Reader is not supported by Institution's decryption plug-in. Please contact the Institution for an update.

In this instance, you need to update the following files: whichdoc.api and replace.ini, both of which are available from the Downloads section.

Similarly, some users have reported the following error message:

  • Acrobat could not open [file name].pdf because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been corrupted (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).

One possible cause of this error is that you are using Acrobat Reader 5.1. Please check which version you are using by opening Acrobat and clicking Help>About Acrobat Reader. If your version is earlier than 5.1.0, you need to update whichdoc.api and replace.ini.

You might also consider switching off the Auto Update facility: go to Edit>Preferences>Update, change the setting to Manually and click Update Acrobat Now.

Installation:

These updates correct the above two problems and may be used irrespective of the operating system. The files should be downloaded to replace the existing files in your Acrobat Reader plug-ins directory. If you selected the normal installation options, the new files should go to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 5.0\Reader\plug_ins.

Please delete these three files: replace.api, replace.ini and whichdoc.api and then download the two files whichdoc.api [74K] and replace.ini [1K] from the Downloads section opposite.

(NB: replace.api is no longer required.)

Updated Guidance Notes for CD version 4

These files will integrate well with CD v4. However, some links between documents that have not been updated to "inc 2001 Amd No 1" and some links between the Definitions and Cross reference files will fail.

The files should be downloaded to replace the existing files in your IEE_16th directory. If you selected the normal installation options, the new file should go to C:\IEE_16th\2001.

Please delete the existing three files, then download the following four files from the Downloads section opposite. Some users may need to right-click the link to save the file.

  •  For updated Guidance Note 1, download GN1.pdf [1.7MB]
  •  For updated Guidance Note 2, download GN2.pdf [1.1MB]
  •  For updated Guidance Note 5, download GN5.pdf [0.8MB]
  •  For updated Guidance Note 7, download GN7.pdf [1.9MB]

Update to CD version 4 for networks

The instructions given in Install.pdf are not correct for networks. This document contains the workaround. For an update in PDF format, please download NLC.pdf [32K] from the Downloads section opposite.
